In class, we have been reading the novel ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree’ as part of our World Around Us topic . Children have been fascinated reading of the struggles and journey of three siblings, Eily, Michael and Peggy, in their quest to survive life in famine stricken Ireland without their mother and father. Children created questions they would like to ask the three siblings and then took on the role of the characters to answer these questions in a ‘hot-seating’ activity.
