The Year 6 pupils had a great time visiting Ballymena Library. While we were there, Laura gave us an interesting talk all about shops in Ballymena – what they were like in the past and how they’ve changed over time. This linked in with our Fairtrade topic, helping us think about where our food and goods come from and how shops have changed.
We looked at old pictures of Ballymena and compared them to shops we see today. We spotted what has stayed the same and what is different now.
We also explored a historical map of Ballymena and updated it by marking cafes and shops that are there today. We labelled places like Nobel Cafe, Juliano’s, The Merchant Chip Shop, Bob & Bert’s, The Library and McKillen’s Shoe Shop, using street names to help us find their locations.
