Perfect Polyhendrons in Primary 6

4th Mar 2025
This term, Primary 6 have been developing their understanding of 3D shapes and their properties through hands-on activities. They have explored key features such as faces, edges, and vertices, using practical investigations. One of their tasks involved using Clixi to investigate the nets of squares. They carefully arranged different nets to test whether they could successfully fold them into cubes, helping them to identify patterns and relationships. Working in pairs, they also took on a communication challenge. They had to describe a mystery shape to a partner and they would guess what shape it was. This activity encouraged careful observation and mathematical language. To put their knowledge to the test, pupils worked together to construct their own polyhedron models using art straws and Play-Doh. This activity required them to apply their knowledge of shape properties and challenged them to carefully measure out each edge and construct their shapes with accuracy.  These activities helped Primary 6 bring 3D shapes to life and encourage team-work and problem solving skills.
