Lidl's Behind-the-Scenes Adventure: Year 6 Explore the Distribution Centre!
As part of Maths Week, Year 6 pupils paid a visit to the Lidl Distribution Centre located in Nutts Corner. During this trip, they had the opportunity to explore the warehouse and gain insights into the storage of various items. After communication with the ‘Process’ team, the pupils soon realised that maths plays a crucial role in the daily tasks of these professionals, particularly when calculating the quantities of each item required for shipment to every Lidl store in Northern Ireland and optimising warehouse space. It was enlightening to discover that each year, Lidl ships a total of 480,671 pallets to all 41 of their Northern Ireland stores.
The pupils had the chance to assess the pumpkin’s dimensions, ensuring it met Lidl’s store regulations. They also had the opportunity to inspect and categorise the apples, checking their temperature and quality. The highlight was wearing a high-visibility vest, transforming them into mini Lidl employees, and receiving a goodie bag as a reward.
A massive thank you to Mark Adair (Director of Operations) for making this happen. We had lots of fun and learnt so much!
