Nature Rangers are planning on running a Forest School afterschool club and a summer scheme over the coming months in Peoples' Park, Ballymena.
A typical day would look like this for the children;
- 2-3pm – pick up from school and change into outdoor clothes
- 3-3.15pm - snack
- 3.30-5.30pm – outside / forest session
- 5.30-6pm – pick up time and close.
Some of the activities they do include, den building, ropes and tarps, fire lighting, fire pit cooking, whittling and carving, appropriate tool use. There are many benefits for children learning in nature settings, Nature Rangers practice mindfulness and children’s yoga as well as forest bathing and meditating to look after children’s mental and emotional well-being, which is particularly important in these current trying times.
