Year 6 have been researching the origins of some of the food we eat and were amazed at the distance imported foods have to travel to reach our homes. We investigated the ‘journey’ of bananas and chocolate and realised the producers of these foods often work very long hours in extremely tough conditions. We learnt that these producers are sometimes supported by Fair Trade organisations who ensure that they receive a fair price for their goods. To highlight the importance of Fair Trade we have created posters and have been writing persuasive arguments to encourage others to buy Fair Trade products. Maybe you could help to support poor farmers in developing countries by buying some Fair Trade products the next time you go shopping.
