Electrifying Work in Year 6!
Our theme for Science Week was ‘Making Connections.’ With this in mind Year 6 planned and carried out an electricity-based experiment around this theme.
To begin, the pupils created a circuit using crocodile clips, wires, a light bulb and an AA battery. Next, they introduced a home-made switch into the circuit using a small piece of paper, two split pins and a paper clip to break the flow of electricity. This allowed the bulb to be turned on and off, by opening and closing the switch demonstrating that electricity will only travel around a closed circuit when connections are made. The final step was to insert the circuit into a home-made lighthouse.
As well as this, St. Louis’ sixth form students visited Year 6 and delivered a diverse workshop carrying out a wide variety of experiments all around the theme of ‘Making Connections.’
The pupils had lots of fun and all displayed qualities of a ‘Super Scientist!’
