Mr. Kieran Chappell, the pilot, had an enjoyable time with Year 1 pupils, sharing insights into how maths is an integral part of his daily work, ensuring the safety and efficiency of flights. He elaborated on how he undertakes various maths calculations before each flight, such as determining the required fuel quantity and balancing the aircraft's weight.
The Year 1 pupils had a thrilling day as they had the opportunity to interact with a model aeroplane, and they eagerly listened to Kieran's captivating stories about his adventures as a pilot. Kieran also organised an engaging activity for them, allowing them to locate numbers on the runway. Moreover, he showed them pictures of himself inside the cockpit and the breathtaking view he experiences from there. The most exciting moment of the day was when they played with a miniature toy aeroplane and witnessed Kieran dressed in his pilot's uniform.
We want to express our thanks to Kieran for taking the time to demonstrate to the Year 1 pupils how maths plays an important role in his profession. His daughter, Niamh, in particular, had an extraordinary time and truly relished the experience.
