🌈🌈 Over the Rainbow with Year 5 🌈🌈
Year 5 have using their scientific skills of prediction and observation to investigate the properties of water.
Using kitchen roll, felt tip pens and water, the pupils grew rainbows 🌈 .
The kitchen roll was folded and at each end colours of the rainbow were drawn.
Using two cups with some water in them, the ends of the kitchen roll were then dipped into.
Then it was time for the pupils to discuss what they thought might happen and observe the rainbows being created.
This science experiment is a great example of chromatography which is a way of separating a mixture of chemicals. This experiment also demonstrates capillary action which is how the water moves upward through the paper towel dragging the colours with it.🌈
